Mobile-Application-based GNSS Integrity Engine
The main objective of this project is to demonstrate that crowd-sensed GNSS signals can be effectively used as the sole (or main) data source for an integrity service. Regardless of the exact architecture of MAGIE, integrity will be provided by allowing the user to assess his guaranteed positioning performance. This is achieved by providing statistical bounds to the residual error components (after applying potential corrections and removing signals impacted by feared events) and transferring these to the position domain in the user receiver.
Integrity is the measure of the trust that can be placed in the correctness of the information supplied by a PNT system. Integrity includes the ability of the system to provide timely warnings to users when the system should not be used for navigation.
Currently two categories of GNSS integrity services exist: Safety-of-life services and liability-critical services. But the definition of integrity is somewhat vague and needs further specification. In the case of integrity, this is achieved by means of the concepts of Alert Limit, Integrity Risk, Protection Level and Time to Alert The feasibility and benefits of MAGIE will be assessed by large-scale simulations, possibly assisted by actual measurements. The
simulations in the project will follow a multi-layered approach (3 steps) to reduce the simulation load, to allow to assess the effectiveness of the protection against feared events in an efficient manner.
